Q: How is Lean Library Access different from VPN or EZproxy?
Answered by: Jennifer Bazeley

Lean Library Access notifies you when you are not on the Yale network and are accessing content the Yale Library subscribes to. It is a browser extension that will prompt you to authenticate for access to the content.

By contrast, when you are on VPN you are already on the Yale network and will therefore be able to access the content automatically. Lean Library Access uses the same authentication method as if you were on-campus (using EZProxy), it just helps you know when access is available.

To start using Lean Library Access, see "What is Lean Library Access, and why would I want to use it?".
