Q: Can I use an app to check out library materials?
Answered by: Laura Galas

Current Yale students, faculty, and staff can download the free "Yale Library Self-Checkout" app from the app store (available for iOS and Android).

To check out materials, follow these steps:

  1. Open the app and select "Start".
    • Note: If you are at Sterling Memorial Library, Bass Library or the Music Library, you will be prompted to select a specific library. You will not have to select your location in any other campus library.
  2. Log-in with your Net ID and password.
  3. When you are ready to check-out material, select the "plus" icon (+) at the top left corner.
  4. Use your phone's camera to scan the book's barcode. Barcodes are often located on front of back inside flap. You may opt to charge out multiple items at once.
    • If you are unable to find the barcode, visit a Library Service Desk for assistance
  5. Click "Finish" to complete your transaction.
  6. A confirmation note will appear on your screen and a receipt will be emailed to you. Receipts are emailed from receipts@meescan.com.

Note: Materials that are charged out in the Arts Library and the Marx Library do have to be desensitized before you leave the building. Please see desk staff for assistance.
