When connecting to a secure Yale site from off-campus, you will have to authenticate using MFA. You will first log in with your Net ID and password.
Then you will receive a following prompt from Duo Security.
To fill in the “Multifactor Authentication” field, you can choose one of the following options:
- Push - to receive a prompt to authenticate through your mobile device (you must have the DUO app)
- SMS - you may request a passcode through SMS
- Phone - to authenticate via phone
- Code generated by DUO mobile
Below, you'll find step-by-step instructions for authenticating using each option.
If you opt to use the "Push" option, type the word “push” into the "Multifactor Authentication" field. This will send a notification to your registered mobile device. When you “Approve” this prompt, you will be automatically logged into VPN.
You can have a pass code sent to your mobile device when you type "SMS" in the "Multifactor Authentication" field. Enter the pass code into the "Multifactor Authentication" field, then click "Okay"
When you receive a pass code on your mobile device, enter it into the password field on the DUO Security page.
If you choose “Phone” when authenticating, you will receive a phone call from our Yale IT Department. When you answer the phone, select “1” to authenticate (or "0" to report fraud.)
You may also authenticate using a password generated through the DUO app. Click on the DUO app on your mobile device.
- Select the key icon to generate a pass code.
- Enter the pass code in the blank "Multifactor Authentication" field and click okay.
