Q: Are Yale student records restricted?
Answered by: Laura Galas

Student records are restricted 75 years from the student’s last known date of attendance, or life of the student plus five years, whichever period is longer.

Beyond their academic records, which are recorded in their transcripts, student records document a range of administrative activities: the recruitment, selection, and admission of students, the funding of their education, advising and counseling about their studies and careers, and the process of graduation.

Student records are protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA-related requests must be handled by the University Registrar’s Office (URO), per Yale University policy.   Access requests should be directed to them at registrar@yale.edu
