Q: What types of materials are and are not available through ILL?
Answered by: Jessica Bower Relevo

Generally, Yale will try to borrow anything another library is willing to lend. Information about ILL Borrowing Policies can be found on the Interlibrary Loan website website.

Yale can usually borrow via Interlibrary Loan:

  • books
  • microfilm/microfiche
  • dissertations and many theses
  • conference proceedings
  • book chapters
  • journal articles (as pdf files)

Some items that are more difficult to procure are:

  • Undergraduate senior theses
  • rare and pre-1850 books and manuscripts
  • films and audio recordings
  • entire journal volumes
  • popular fiction and books that have gotten a lot of recent press
  • textbooks in high demand
  • international dissertations
