Does Yale retain the papers of its faculty?

University Archives generally does not retain faculty papers. Records of faculty who became officers of the University are collected, however Yale only collects records they produced as Yale officers and not their personal research.

University Archives does collect records created by faculty relating to the development and teaching of Yale courses, which can be found in the collection of the relevant academic department.

Historically, some faculty papers were collected as manuscript collections, and these can be found by searching by name in Archives at Yale. You may also wish to search ArchiveGrid to locate papers at other institutions.

If you need additional assistance in locating an archive, please email beinecke.library@yale.edu.
