Q: I'm interested in finding the top publications in a discipline or sub-field. Can I do that in Google Scholar?

To find top publications, use Google Scholar Metrics (to navigate to Metrics on your own, use the dropdown menu at the top left of the Google Scholar homepage).

Here you can view the top publications and the top ordered by their five-year h-index and h-median metrics. By default the top English-language publications will display. Change the filter to view the top publications in other languages.

To browse to a specific discipline, select "View all" and then navigate to "Categories" (see screenshot below). To search within these publications, select the search icon on the top right.

For more information on Google Scholar Metrics, see the Metrics help page: https://scholar.google.com/intl/en/scholar/metrics.html.
