Q: I’m hoping to get a newly-published book through Interlibrary Loan. Is this possible?

If you find a newly published book that Yale Library does not already own, you can try to request it through InterLibrary Loan (ILL). However, sometimes book publications are delayed and newly published materials are in high demand.

Search for the book in Worldcat and check to see whether the record lists page numbers or size, and whether other libraries own the book. If this information is not listed, the book probably has not been published yet. You can also double-check the actual publication date through Amazon.com

Additionally, if the title is currently in high demand by library users (i.e. bestseller, textbook, or book recently in the news) it may be difficult to find a library that can lend a copy to Yale.

If the book was published in the last year or is in high demand via InterLibrary Loan, you may get it faster by asking the Yale Library to buy it via their Purchase Request Form.
