Q: Where can I find a copy of the Oxford English Dictionary?
Answered by: Laura Galas

The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is available in print and online

To access the online version of the OED:
  1. Go to library.yale.edu
  2. Under the heading for "Find, Request, And Use" select "Databases"
  3. Search for "Oxford English Dictionary"
  4. Select the entry for the online edition of the Oxford English Dictionary (https://search.library.yale.edu/databases/11713833

See the video tutorial below for a short demonstration.

If I'm prompted for a login, what should I do?

You should not be prompted for a login when you connect to our databases.

  • If you are on campus, make sure you're connected to the Yale Network.
  • If you are off-campus, you should be automatically prompted to login with your NetID and password to authenticate. Watch the video below for more information on this process.
  • Alternatively, if you are off-campus, you can install Cisco VPN AnyConnect, which will register your computer's IP Address with the Yale Network, ensuring uninterrupted access to all of our electronic resources. See our guide to Off-Campus Access.
